Hello I am very much considering getting a series 7 apple watch, and going with the cellular option. I plan on going cellular so I can leave my watch at home when I head out with friends, or go for a run and still be somewhat connected. My biggest worry is battery life. I currently go about 23 hours between charges on my GPS SE.
Havingno phone for maps, payments, streaming, Uber, etc. is a huge deal for many. I also don't tend to take my watch to clubs, swimming, gyms, etc. where I have to keep phone in locker and risk getting it stolen. It's also a great backup to the dead phone battery if you need to get directions or call an Uber. For SE, the difference is only $50.
Ifyou get the GPS + Cellular then yes you can leave your phone at home, and just take your watch. However, if you get just the GPS edition then you will have to have your phone near/on you to receive calls and texts. EDIT: You will have to have an additional line for your cellular watch. Iuse an Apple Watch series 7 with cellular, I haven't used a Garmin but I swear by the Apple Watch, it works seamlessly with my AirPods as well. Previously I had a Samsung active watch 2 with LTE paired with Jaybird Vista headphones and the bluetooth connectivity issues made me want to cry sometimes.
