Re-wear your dirty clothes. Experts will advise sleeping in your running gear — compression tights and all — so there is nothing between you and starting your morning run. The idea is that you
In order to run a 5k in 30 minutes or less, you need to be running at a 30 minute 5k pace which is 9:39 minutes per mile or 6:00 minutes per kilometre. When it comes to pacing, it’s important to maintain this type of pace consistently throughout your run. This means you have to be able to run 9:39 minutes per mile or 6 minutes per kilometre
TheDude--Abides- •. Agreed. the build up to trying a 5k PB is quite tense, knowing its going to be hard work and you'll have to suffer a bit. I think what sets apart some runners is the mental strength. People who sub 20mins generally are a bit more mentally tough and will push themselves further and faster.
If you’re wanting to know how to run a 5K without stopping, check this out. Hydration is also important. Typically, a runner should aim to drink around 16oz for a 5K. This can vary from runner to runner. Luckily a 5K run is short enough that you won’t need to thik about drinking aything besides water.
Even better are what I call floats. Peter Thompson calls it New Interval Training. The idea is that instead of running, e.g., 1200m at steady pace, you run 300m at 5K pace or faster, then "float" 100m in a pseudo recovery that feels like about marathon pace, then "roll" into the next 300, doing them in sets of 3 or even 4.
Usually I run somewhere form 5-10km per run, (so a 5k is on the short side for me) and my usual pace is around to 5.5-6.5 minutes per km. (I had to pick up the pace to get my 5k under 25 minutes, but that speed isn’t the norm for me) cheddanotchedder • 3 yr. ago. Interesting, how often do you run a week 5 k vs 10 k.
